Violin Fantasy: Polina Sedukh, violin, Irina Behrendt, piano
What is a fantasy in music—a form, or a freedom shared between performers?
This program explores the many shades of the fantastical through works that stretch beyond convention and invite a sense of spontaneity and dialogue. At its center is Fantasia in C major for Violin and Piano by Franz Schubert, a work of unfolding imagination whose shifting moods feel almost improvised, as if discovered in the moment between violin and piano.
The serene lyricism of Romance No. 2 in F major, Op. 50 by Ludwig van Beethoven opens the program with a single melodic voice that gently expands into Schubert’s freer, more expansive world. From there, Violin Sonata in E-flat major by Paul Hindemith and the passionate Scherzo from the F.A.E. Sonata by Johannes Brahms reveal fantasy through contrast, interplay, and the energy of musical exchange—whether between instruments or between composers themselves.
The program closes with the intimate dreamscape of Nocturne-Serenade by Pablo de Sarasate, where virtuosity becomes a shared act of storytelling.
Together, these works suggest that fantasy is not only imagination, but collaboration—music unfolding in real time, shaped by listening, responding, and creating together.

“All The World’s a Stage” Chagall, Tyshler, and Our Own Fantasies
While Marc Chagall needs no introduction, Alexander Tyshler, unfortunately, remains less known to many.
Tyshler's journey began with five years at the Kiev Art School, followed by the legendary VKHUTEMAS, under the guidance of masters like Exter and Favorsky. He later became a key figure in the “Society of Easel Artists” alongside friends Deineka and Pimenov. In Kyiv, he formed close friendships with Mandelstam and Ehrenburg, and in Moscow, with Mayakovsky, Yesenin, and Bagritsky.
Robert Falk praised Tyshler as a “sweet storyteller” and acclaimed his graphics for their perfection akin to Japanese calligraphy.
Anna Akhmatova treasured her portraits by Tyshler as among the most heartfelt.
A fascinating story involves Marc Chagall. In his early years, Tyshler was an ardent admirer of Chagall’s work. Yet, when Chagall visited Moscow in 1973, Tyshler did not rush to meet him, despite having saved Chagall’s panels after the destruction of the State Jewish Theater and donating them to the Tretyakov Gallery. Chagall wrote him a note with a drawing (a face):
“Moscow 1973
Dear Alek. Tyshler
Sweet artist, we are sending you — a thank you. I don’t know how to draw now, because I am excited — Marc Chagall.”
In 2017, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts held a retrospective exhibition of Alexander Tyshler.
We seek to continue this tradition of theater, acting, and surrealism. We invited all artists who are ready to support this “phantasmagoric” theme with their works to participate.

Treasures from Private Collections: Masterpieces of Illustration
The mastermind behind this exhibition is Yulia Garamova, a well-known among the Russian-speaking community art connoisseur, musician, and lecturer, in collaboration with Natalia Makarenko.
Nearly all displayed works are coming to us from a private collection of Leonid Belotserkovsky. We thank him for the rare opportunity to see the handwritten books and miniature drawings by these two unique artists. Irina Dmitrenko and Feruz Temirov to American audiences have firmly established themselves in European museums and exhibitions.
Just imagine—every drawing, each line meticulously and accurately crafted by hand.
No printing, no engraving! Each detail done manually!
That is why it's impossible to create two absolutely identical handwritten books or drawings. We will showcase this miraculous process through video from Irina.
Feruz is renowned among European collectors for his exquisite artistic miniatures. These gems of Persian culture, created on antique paper using watercolor and tempera, showcase his finesse.
During the event discussions, we'll explore the artists' backgrounds, presenting their works alongside the artists themselves. Stay connected!
